Steroid hormones play important roles in many physiological processes. Deep profiling of steroid hormones may provide valuable insights for research and clinical studies. Laboratory tests for numerous steroid hormones, such as testosterone, estradiol, and dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate, are offered from many commercial sources. However, these tests focus on individual or limited combinations of hormonal species and do not provide a comprehensive picture of the entire steroid hormone biosynthesis. Also, the amount of sample required to test an extensive panel, in some situations, make it unpractical due to limited sample material.

SHORT CHAIN FATTY ACID TECH SHEET

Inflammatory lipid mediators are potent signal molecules derived from the oxidation of phospholipids and ω-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids. They play significant  roles in regulating a multitude of physiological and cellular processes.

This panel measures the eleven key species of inflammatory lipid mediators that are prominent in human plasma. Covered lipid mediators classes are: prostaglandins, hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acids (HETE), hydroxyoctadecadienoic acids (HODE), dihydroxy-octadecenoic acids (diHOME) and their fatty acid precursors linoleic acid and arachidonic acid.

HMOs are important prebiotics and display many unique health effects for infants. These sugars act by promoting growth of beneficial bacteria in the large intestine, thereby generating short-chain fatty acids which are critical for gut health.

Certain HMOs can help establish immunocompetence, both locally and systemically. HMOs may also participate in a gut– brain connection, thereby modulating brain and cognitive development.
